What We Expect of Our Members

We expect our members to participate in Worship every Sunday.

We believe that worship is our opportunity to tell God how great He is and how much we love Him. And while we can and need to do that every day, we are given an opportunity to do this in a special way on Sundays with our SCC family. Hebrews 10:25 says, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” David said, “I was glad when they said, Let us go to the house of the Lord.” With the exceptions of illness, distance, or work, we want God’s people at SCC to eagerly anticipate being together.

We expect our members to be involved in Education.

If we wish to know more of who God is and who He is calling us to become, we must know His Word. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Again, we all ought to be involved in a daily study of God’s Word. But this also includes coming together for a time of study with other Christians. Our Sunday morning Bible Studies, Sunday and Wednesday Night Studies, Small Group Bible studies are all examples of how you can be involved.

We expect our members to make Relationships a priority.

Acts 2:42 says that the early church devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Fellowship is the intentional building of relationships that enable us to get to know one another. And while you cannot possibly know everybody, you can build meaningful relationships with 8-10 others.

We expect our members to be involved in Ministry.

The Bible makes it clear that God has given all of us gifts to be used for Him. 1 Corinthians 12 reminds us that the church is one body made up of many parts. Ephesians 2:10 says, “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Our desire is for all members to find how God has gifted them and all God to use them, for His glory.

We expect our members to be involved in Evangelism.

John 3:16 reminds us that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die for us so that if we believe in Him, we will not perish but have eternal life. Someone loved God and you enough to share that truth with you. Jesus said that He came to seek and save the lost. It is why SCC exists.
